Lens and Crans-Montana
Chalet Paprika lies close to the boundary between Lens and Crans-Montana. Together they form one of the best-known holiday regions in the canton of Valais, famous for its sun-drenched setting high above the Rhône Valley. While Crans-Montana is regarded as a chic, international year-round resort, the village of Lens directly below it preserves the traditional and cultural charm of the region.
Crans-Montana sits on a plateau at around 1500 metres. The resort grew historically out of the communities of Crans-sur-Sierre and Montana, which merged as tourism developed. It is a lively, exclusive holiday destination with urban infrastructure and numerous shops. In winter, the varied ski area offers pistes reaching up to the Plaine Morte glacier at 3000 metres. In summer, the area is a paradise for hikers, mountain bikers and golfers.
The charming village of Lens lies a little lower, at 1100 metres, above the vineyards on the right bank of the Rhône. Lens is a traditional Valais mountain village with narrow lanes, historic wooden houses and a rich cultural heritage. It is also home to the Alaïa Club (or Alaïa Chalet), a modern hotspot for action and extreme sports enthusiasts. In addition, the well-known Fondation Opale in Lens is a centre for contemporary Aboriginal art.
Anyone who enjoys being outdoors will find conifer forests, farmed pastures and mountain meadows in the immediate surroundings. Several historic bisses (old irrigation channels) such as the Grand Bisse, the Bisse de Lens or the Bisse du Rho run along the villages. The house stands directly above one of these channels, which leads through the nearby forest to the idyllic Lac Miriouge.
